Gregg, you are a sellout

11 December 2008

Oh Gregg Gillis, I gave you five dollars for Feed The Animals because I thought you cared about freedom (and because that got me the FLAC files). But then I saw a Microsoft advertisement on the Tube, something that said “I’m a PC” with your face next to it. It wasn’t really clear what exactly was being advertised, nor why a PC is good, nor what a “PC” is, something I’ve wondered for quite a while. What is clear to me, though, is that you suck for selling out in the worst possible way.

I want my five dollars back.

Ubuntu 8.10 released today

30 October 2008

Ubuntu is an operating system which, unlike Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, is free (both ‘libre’ and ‘gratis’), reliable, fast, and usable to your average Joe computer user. You can download the latest version, 8.10, for free here and run it from a CD without affecting the current operating system(s) on your hard disk at all.

Read more about the philosophy behind Ubuntu here.

No doubt I will soon write a bit about why you should do as much as you can to stop the growth of Microsoft as a business power.

Wiimote virtual reality head tracking

4 October 2008

Inspired by today’s xkcd comic, I went seeking the mentioned head tracking virtual reality software. Watch and be amazed (if you’re impatient, just skip to the meat at 2:30):

CMU continues to garner my respect. I would be more impressed if the author hadn’t used C# and DirectX on Microsoft Windows.
