Attention Wikipedia: any website with a title beginning with “Dave’s” or “Jim’s” or any other name followed by an apostrophe and the letter “s” is not a reputable reference.
Crutches
6 November 2008Not once have I seen here in London a pair of crutches of the type to which I am accustomed. They look like this:

Everyone here seems to have the smaller, more futuristic looking type. They look like this:

Correlation does not imply causation
27 October 2008Here is the Wikipedia article concerning correlation implying causation, complete with a chart showing the “direct” relationship between global average temperature and number of pirates. I find it interesting that it is so difficult for me (and maybe you, too) to separate myself from prejudiced assumptions about any given system. Here, our intuitions (whatever those are) seem to lead us in the wrong direction.
